How to use RS1
RS/1 is not a silicon simulator, it is a statistical analysis tool.
Data is entered through the keyboard as though an experiment has been conducted.
The editor is text menu driven. The menus are in a hierarchal format, with each menu containing commands that give access to sub-menus with more commands.
-
Any text shown below in CAPITALS and COLOUR refers to either a menu option, or current menu (The two are interchangeable). Commands to be entered at the prompts are in lowercase green text.
-
To enter a new menu, or select a choice, type in either the full name of the menu or choice, type in the number of the choice on the present menu,
or use the arrow keys to select the menu choice and then press enter.
-
Often an arrow (>) will appear at one of the menu choices; this is the editors suggestion of what to do next: generally it is correct.
-
To return to the previous level of menu use the command "up" or using the left cursor key.
-
The base level menu is EXPER. The current level and position of menu is at the prompt line, eg EXPER.DEFINE.FACTORS> will denote you are in the Factors menu of the Define menu of the Exper root menu. "up" would therefore take you to EXPER.DEFINE> and so on.
-
MULREG refers to the "analyze" selection from EXPER.
-
Lists of items can be referred to by use of commas to seperate items.
-
Often a function will continue to ask for an entry, hitting [RETURN] without entering anything will usually get you out of the prompt. If that fails try "/exit" and if that fails, try "/abort". If they both fail try [CTRL+C].
-
Anything in [square brackets] at the prompt is a default option and will be entered by just hitting [RETURN].
-
If a list of commands is shown, you need only type in the first few letters of the commands you want, and the editor correctly recognises it.
-
The editor does not distinguish or care between lower case and capitals
-
Typing EXIT will allow you to exit the simulation.
- To re-load a simulation, select the appropriate Experiment in the left hand frame, then select "Command-Mode RS/1". In the command window type "edit" followed by the name of the experiment when prompted.
If there are any questions that you don't understand (e.g. Do you want line editing disabled so you may use terminal arrow keys? ) and there is a default option in square brackets, go with that optionor ask a supervisor (we recommend the former option :) )
