Dvips is the dvi file to PostScript printer that is used in this
department to print dvi files. By itself, with a dvi filename as
an argument, the resulting PostScript file is echoed to the screen
and may be piped to a file if so desired. However, with the -P
option, the output may be directly sent to a printer. The allowed
printers are
-Pps0 | HP LaserJet 4000N Photocopying room printer |
-Pps0x2 | 2-up printing to ps0 |
-Pps0x4 | 4-up printing to ps0 |
-Pps16 | HP LaserJet HP4P |
-Pps16x2 | 2-up printing to ps16 |
-Pps16x4 | 4-up printing to ps16 |
-Pps3 | Liz's printer |
-Pps3x2 | 2-up printing to ps3 |
-Pps3x4 | |
-Pps5 | HP LaserJet 4000N TLC printer |

-Pps6 | HP LaserJet 4000N SMC printer |
-Pps6x2 | 2-up printing to ps6 |
-Pps6x4 | 4-up printing to ps6 |
Other useful options include the -pp option which allows
selective printing of pages. See the
full manual for detailed instructions on how
to use dvips.
Rather than creating a PostScript file, and then viewing this with ghostview, or printing it, the dvi file may be viewed using xdvi. The current version will attempt to display included PostScript figures, but may not correctly display any other PostScript commands included by packages such as PSTricks.
