Research Interests

I am currently a reader at the Institute for Digital Communications, in the School of Engineering and Electronics. I also collaborate with researchers from the Systems Level Integration Group. My main research interests are in:

• Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) Wireless Systems
• Rapid Prototyping of MIMO Detection Algorithms, including the Fixed Sphere Decoder
• Relaying Techniques for Wireless Communications
• Combining MIMO and Relay Concepts for Wireless

I am currently involved in a new collaborative EPSRC project entitled Adaptive Hardware Systems with Novel Algorithmic Design and Guaranteed Resource Bounds

I have contributed a chapter with Dr Ali Dakdouki on "Smart Antennas for TDD CDMA Systems" to the forthcoming book Next Generation Mobile Access Technologies: Implementing TDD edited by Dr Harald Haas and Prof Steve McLaughlin. It is published by Cambridge University Press and is due to appear in January 2008.

Learned Society Activities

I am involved in a number of activities with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE):

• Editor of IET Proceeding Vision, Image and Signal Processing from 2002-2006. I have recently become the founding Editor-in-Chief of a new journal, IET Signal Processing.
• Technical Programme Co-chair, along with Ivan Andonovic for the IEEE ICC 2007 which was held in Glasgow in June 2007. Pictures of the conference, plus footage of the CEO Forum can be found in the useful links box on this webpage.
• Joint Organiser, along with March Beach of Bristol University and Ben Allen of Oxford University of an IET Seminar on Smart Antennas and Cooperative Communications which was held on 22nd Oct 2007. The oral presentations from this seminar have been uploaded on IET TV (Communications) - search for Prof Kin Leung's talk on MEMBRANE and ITA projects, which is first in the list.

Teaching Activities

I am a co-author, along with Peter Grant and Bernard Mulgrew, of the second edition of book entitled "Digital Signal Processing: Concepts and Applications". More information can be found here.

I am currently involved with teaching the following courses:

• Electrical Engineering Methods 2 (MATLAB Programming)
• Electronic Systems Design 5

I used to work with Andrew McCormick, a post-doctoral researcher. Whilst at Edinburgh, he wrote a Java based tutorial on OFDM, which can be found here.
