Dr Andy Downes

Andy Downes is a RCUK fellow in Biomedical Engineering with the Institute for Materials and Processes, in the School of Engineering. He is also a member of the Centre for Biomedical Engineering at Edinburgh.

Funding: PI: MRC discipline hopping award (G0802632), ‘Chemical microscopy and spectroscopy of live stem cells’ (£125k) 01/07/2009 - 30/06/2010.

Co-I: CRUK large equipment scheme, ‘Application for a multi-modal two-photon/CARS imaging system’ (£250k) with Prof. Margaret Frame (PI), March 2011. Additional funding secured (£50k from MRC, £50k from University of Edinburgh).

Membership: UK national stem cell network (UKNSCN), Scottish stem cell network (SSCN), Edinburgh Cancer Research UK Centre (ECRC), Centre for Infectious Diseases (CID), MicroCARS EU network

Teaching: MSc in bioelectronics (biomedical imaging techniques). MSc in biomechanics (starting Sep 2011).

Responsibilities: organize IMP seminars, school laser supervisor / school safety committee, PhD supervision (Meropi Mari from 2008, Massimo Muratore from 2010, Helen Cope from 2011), IMP webmaster.
