MEng/BEng in Electronics and Software Engineering
Electronics and Software Engineering is a degree course run by
the School of Engineering and Electronics and the School
of Informatics. The course focuses on electronic design as well as software skills
- the basis of many modern electronic devices. The course integrates the two
disciplines such that the most relevant material from each is covered to result in
a well rounded course that teaches Engineering principles and practice.
For many years engineers have used software tools to develop the
increasingly complex hardware that has become a common part of everyday
life. The design of much electronic equipment is now so complex that to
provide all of the functionality in hardware is impractical. The
solution is to design a product as an intimate mix of hardware and software components.
This requires engineers who are equally familiar with these components and
the tools needed to combine them into the solutions that will satisfy the needs
of tomorrow's world.
This course, like other MEng and BEng degree courses in Electronics, has a
common structure
in the early years with the core subjects of Mathematics,
Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. In the later years of the course specialist
subjects are taught including Digital System Design, Large Scale
Integrated Circuits,
Computer Networking, Software Engineering to name but a few.
Full details, including typical entrance requirements, can be found in the
course flyer.
