Derek Ezra Award won by Edinburgh student

Congratulations go to Valentina Cvoro on winning the 2003 Derek Ezra Award. The award is given to reward outstanding achievement in the study of combustion engineering by a degree course or post-graduate student. The award is judged by a panel of committee members from the Combustion Engineering Association.

The Derek Ezra Award is presented annually to reward outstanding achievement in the study of combustion engineering by a degree course or post-graduate student. Valentina is in the final year of her PhD studies and won the award for her work on "Experimental and numerical analysis of turbulence in interacting low NOx burner flows in coal fired furnaces". The award was made at the annual meeting of the Combustion Engineering Association at the House of Lords, where delegates were treated to a sumptuous lunch and talks by spokesmen from the government and the opposition on their respective policies on energy for the future.

The Combustion Engineering Association seeks to promote the science of combustion engineering and to promote best practise. The membership comprises the major fuel and energy producers/refiners covering Oil, Gas and Coal, the makers and suppliers of combustion engineering equipment, and academic institutions concerned with the combustion engineering process.
