Playing Audio CDs on the Sun Workstations

Users may if they wish use the CD drives on the sun workstation to play audio CDs as long as HEADPHONES are used and the external speaker turned off.

The preferred method of operation for audio CD's is:

1. Plug headphones into headphone socket - but which one?:
   • If you are only going to listen to audio CDs then it is better to use the socket on the CD drive,
   • otherwise, use the on-board headphone socket
     [most of the TLC Suns have a black headphone cable attached to the monitor, please mail support if not and we will fit one].
2. Insert CD into drive.
3. Run audiotool, to be able to turn off output to speaker.
4. Run xmcd to control play and track selection.

Using xmcd should hopefully cut down on the number of times that CDs get stuck in the drives. If the CD drive does become unresponsive then please email support@ee.ed.ac.uk who will extract the CD for you.
