Cadence Software available on the Eng Unix Network

Please note that some software has been updated since this document was written. Also it is our intention during 2009/2010 to move to using newer versions of the software running under linux, please click here for more details

If you have any problems accessing the Cadence software on the system then contact the IT staff email: seesup@ed.ac.uk. Please note however that the computing officers cannot deal with problems or questions about the use of the software, please direct these to europrac@see.ed.ac.uk, ask your supervisor or ask a knowledgeable person in your research group. Please note that on NO account should users approach Cadence direct all questions must be channelled in the first instance via David Stewart and Ahmet Erdogan

Remote access using NX

Most Cadence tools can be remotely by using NX. See http://www.see.ed.ac.uk/it/network/remote/nx/. for details on configuring NX. Please note the following additional steps:

  1. After connecting to the NX server open a terminal window.
  2. In this window type: ssh tlcc
  3. Once logged in, type: tcsh

Also if you get an error similar to: "BadName (named color or font does not exist)" then make the following changes to your NX configuration

  1. Start NX client but don't login
  2. Click Configure
  3. Choose Environment Tab
  4. Under font Server click "use font server"
  5. In the "Host" box type "tlc.see.ed.ac.uk"
  6. Save changes and then run NX as normal.

Locking Problems on New file Servers

If you have been moved to one of the Eng file servers and receive an error about file locking then before typing your cadence command type the following:
setenv CLS_CDSD_COMPATIBILITY_LOCKING NO (csh/tcsh)
export CLS_CDSD_COMPATIBILITY_LOCKING=NO (bash)

Cadence version 95_02

Status

Do NOT use for new work This version is only retained for backwards compatibility.

Running Cadence version 95_02

In a window change to the directory that you want to work in and type the command:- xhost +workstation_name Then type the command (n.b. it only works in a "tcsh" window):- cds95_02setup then type your cadence command e.g. icds and be patient. Alternatively change to the directory you want to work and type: cadstart (this does all the setting up, xhost+ etc and runs "icds", if you want to start cadence with a different command then type set the environment variable CADPROG to the desired command before invoking "cadstart") There are other versions of cadstart e.g. ES2kitstart95 which will run cadence with the ES2 1.0um or 0.7um design kit.

Documentation

There is on-line documentation available, type:- openbook
