Information Needed for Network ChangesW Number - This is a unique number, specific to your machine, which allows us to identify your machine on the network. The w number can be found attached as a white sticker on your PC, which may or may not contain further information about the computer. It takes the form w1234, where the number represents your machine. When entering this number, ensure that the w is in lower case. If your machine does not have a w number attached, you should contact the support helpline, and tell them your MAC address, and U Number and they will tell you your w number from our database. U Number - This is a unique number which identifies the network socket which your machine is plugged into. This number can be found by looking at the socket on the wall which the PC's network cable is connected to. It takes the form u1234, where the number identifies the socket uniquely. MAC Address - this is a unique hardware serial number which all PC's have, which is a built-in method of identification. It takes the form 01:02:03:04:05:06 and can contain any number or letter from A to F. It can be found in Windows 95/98 as follows:

UUN - Universal Username - your universal username is the new username which you will use to login to the network. It is assigned by the University, and will eventually become the one name which will identify you to all University systems. If you do not know what your UUN is, please mail seesup@ed |
