Computer and Network Equipment Registration

Policy

  1. All IT or networked equipment must be registered in the School's computer inventory and approved by the IT team before use can be made.
  2. The registration includes nominating a full time member of the academic staff to take full responsibility for the use of the machine while accessing School facilities. Typically, this would be a user's supervisor or PI
  3. The equipment must be checked for electrical safety compliance (PAT testing) and compliant with any other relevant H+S directives before it can be used.

The policy and procedure described here applies equally to all computing equipment, whether owned by the school, a third party, or, for example, your own personal laptop.

Registration Form

You will find additional help for particular question is available by links embeded in the form, including additional background information.

Pre-registration

As part of revised ordering procedures for IT hardware and software:

  • From Dec 1st 2002, computing equipment purchased through the school, will be PAT tested, pre-registered and made network ready in stores before the user is notified that it is ready for collection. This should greatly reduce the amount of registration work you have to do as the user and allow you to be up and running more quickly than hither to. The user will still need to complete the registration, but much of the information required for the form can be recalled from the database by entering the w-number and pressing refresh.

Personal Machines

These must be registered in full, including PAT registration and nomination of the responsible academic.
