Profile:
Current research interests are multi-disciplinary with applications primarily in structural fire safety engineering and bio-mechanics. A major success of the structures in fire research has been to identify the full significance of the geometric effects of heating on structures, which had been under-estimated previously. This work explained the robust behaviour of large composite steel frame buildings in fire. Previous research at University of Wales (Swansea) focused on modelling foundry casting processes, involving development of a large range of finite element programs for coupled heat transfer with phase changes and incompressible flow problems and developing new finite element techniques for these problems (such as adaptive FEM).Search for publications on the Edinburgh Research Archive.
