PhD Project:

Behaviour of Facades in High-Rise Structure Fires

The construction of super high rise buildings is common practice today, with structures breaking the 1000m mark no longer just fiction but already on the drawing board. Therefore it is vital to improve the understanding of how these structures will behave in fire, and produce codes and standards that reflect the specific fire challenges posed by these mammoth buildings.

The research will analyse current design practices for high-rise double-skin facades and will advance the understanding of how these building features behave in fire. It is proposed that experimental research will be carried out using the salt-water modelling technique.
