Applications for Windows XP in Engineering
Applications on Windows XP for staff and research PGs are managed by a system called Machination.
- The above link shows the list of all the applications that are already in the repository that can be delivered by machination.
- NB: Some applications that have the comment (this application is restricted to certain computers). These products will not be shown as available to install on your computer if you query the Machination control centre. The comment usually means that use of a given application requires a per-seat licence. In these cases, proof of licence purchase is required before your computer can be added to list of machines allowed to have that item software installed.
- In many case we have identified open-source or freeware alternatives to licenced software and in many cases these are recommended in the schoolcore list.
What have I already got?
If you are using a Windows XP machine managed by Machination, you can see what is installed on your machine?
What is in the Teaching Labs?
The Teaching Labs are managed more stringently in order that the School specific teaching software is equally available for our students to use in any of the University centrally provided Microlabs: Target and Actual distributions.
