The EXSEED Diary

The EXSEED diary system uses Microsoft Exchange and is run by IS. All Staff, PGRs and most visitors have a diary account. Associated with the diary is an exseed mailbox.  For Engineering users this is only needed for making the calendar work, you should not use it for sending/reading your email.  Some non calendar email may appear in your exseed account but it should also be in your Staffmail/SMS account.  If this is not the case then please place a SeeSup Helpdesk call (see below).

Windows users can access the diary by using:

  1. The Internet Explorer Web Interface (OWA) at - www.exseed.ed.ac.uk (this is probably the easiest option for most Windows users) [see also below]
  2. Thunderbird with the Lightning Plugin - Install Instructions
  3. Outlook - Outlook needs only to be used if you are a "power" user [i.e. needing to setup delegates and doing other complex things].
Outlook 2003 can be added to your Office 2003 setup by running: N:\packages\UserInstallable\MSOffice\Configure-Office.bat and ticking the Outlook box.
Install instructions (covers Outlook 2003 and 2010)
Note if you wish to use Outlook for accessing the calendar we strongly recommend that you continue to use thunderbird to read your email (SMS, Staffmail or EE) i.e. only setup Outlook to read the calendar.

Unix/Linux users should access the diary using:

  1. Thunderbird with the Lightning Plugin. Instructions for configuring and using Thunderbird are available here

Mobile device users should access the diary by reading:

  1. The "Mobile and web users" section of this document: http://tinyurl.com/connect-exchange

Help and Support

  • If you use the Web Interface (OWA) then to see other users calendars then you need to use this URL
  •    https://www.exseed.ed.ac.uk/owa/UUN@exseed.ed.ac.uk/?cmd=contents&f=calendar
where UUN is the users login name e.g. where the users login name is "das" then the URL is:
       https://www.exseed.ed.ac.uk/owa/das@exseed.ed.ac.uk/?cmd=contents&f=calendar

It may not possible to look directly at anothers users calendar.
HOWEVER you can use the scheduling assistant
    Go to New and choose:
    Meeting Request
Then choose the Schedule Assistant Tab
You can then put people in with their "@ed" address e.g. Jo.Soap@ed
(note some people are firstname.surname@ed others  initial.surname@ed)
    or "uun@exseed.ed"  e.g. josoap@exseed.ed.ac.uk
